written when & who for?It is speculated that the Gospel of Mark was written anywhere from 60 to 70 AD.
The Gospel of Mark was mostly aimed at Gentiles; people who are of a non-Jewish background. These people were relatively new to faith and religion. Mark was aimed at Gentiles who were being persecuted. Some say that it may have also been aimed at the Romans: the time used in the stories was Roman rather than Hebrew. It was intended for those who could read and speak Latin. |
how is it different?
Mark is a pretty full-on retelling of the sacrifice of Jesus; a
man willing to be tortured and killed for the good of his people. It is looking
at Jesus in the perspective that he was a servant, also referring to his
disciples (us): people who trusted what he was saying and were following/living
by what he said.
