the life of early christians
Christianity was brought about in the time
of Jesus who was the creator of the religion. When his preaching’s began and he
started to spread the word of the Lord, religion was still being questioned;
some agreed and followed it but other didn’t like it at all, believing it was
wrong. With that belief in mind, it created a flare which sparked many problems
for Jesus, resulting in a rather unfortunate end. Before Jesus’ death, he was
able to make quite the name for Christianity and had gained quite a large
following. Christianity was and will always be scrutinized about who Jesus
really was, if he was even a real person, the existence of God, if the stories
of the Bible are even true; the list could go on and has literally gone on
forever.
There were certain roles in churches; the
bishop was the head of the local church and there was the order of priests and
deacons. ‘Early Christians’ established churches, with communities of Christians
springing up all over the place throughout Europe. There was a lot of suspicion
initially about them because it was so new to the world at that time. Christians
could be any person: rich, poor, upper class or homeless; it varied greatly.
They were described as being people who would ‘dwell’ in other countries but
were very respectful, treated everyone as equal, anywhere they went they treated
the places the same as they would their own homes; they were like any normal
group of people. It was also mentioned that they did marry and had children,
with the added that they didn’t kill their kids but did have families. They
lived by the laws of Christ. One way to understand the way they were viewed as
is with this quote: “they love all men and are persecuted by all”, basically
meaning that they were kind to everyone but no one liked them and were often
victimized by ‘outsiders’. Christians were poor, seen as not having much but
they gave everything. They were people who wanted to help others even when they
didn’t have a whole lot themselves.
To sum is all up, Christians were accused
of different things and hated by heaps of people, including the Greeks but no
one ever had a proper reason to feel that way. There was never any evidence to
prove the accusations that were flung at the Christians. The best quote to
summarize the overall feeling towards them is this; “What the soul is to the
body, that are Christians in the world”.
